Tester comments :  Daniel Charles :

Rybka 1.0 won one more time a tournament .

Just behind the winner, Fruit, GB Fruit, Spike and Toga ... not really surprising :D

Ktulu did a very good tournament with 12/19

Pharaon 3.51 didn't show that now it is a top engine .

Aristarch was a very strong top chess engine 1 or 2 years ago ...but opponents became stronger and stronger ... It needs a new youth .

Anmon 5.60 the chess engine French champion for the last 2 years did a catastrophic tournament with 4.5/19 .

Abrok 5.0 was invited in this tournament and opponents were too strong.

Tester comments : Gajendra Singh:

A tight win for Hermann 1.9 . Arasan 9.5 led almost throughout the tournament but a littlle bit of slip-up
in the end ( coupled with a late surge by Hermann ) cost it the first place . Booot was hot on the heels of the leaders all through the tournament but hit a bad patch towards the end . Roce is obviously at an elementary stage ( it even once let a clearly won game be drawn by threefold repetition because this rule is not in its internal knowledgebase ) . It also has problems with hash .

Tester comments : Gajendra Singh:

It was a run away win for modified Toga II 1.2.1 ( History margin = 75, rest default) but while these settings are probably stronger than default settings , they are most probably nowhere as strong as these results indicate . Toga II 1.2.1 had a very consistent tournament . In only 3 out of 25 positions did it score less than 50% and even in each of those three positions it scored 1.5/4 . And it finished very strongly scoring 6.5/8 in last two positions .Rybka 1.0 beta 32 bit had a slightly disappointing tournament scoring "only" 50% . Spike 1.2 was thrashed both by Toga II and Rybka but it is somewhat weaker than its opponents anyway .

Tester comments :  Daniel Charles :

Rybka .10 again won another tournament .spike was a serious opponent to win this tournament and finished second (with 3 wins vs rybka 1.0!!!). GB Fruit proved tournament after tournament that it is a very strong uci engine especially for Blitz . Toga (default settings) was below his high standart .

Fritz 9 and The King are very strong engine, however, free  UCI engine improved a lot last 2 years and the top 4 or 5 free UCI engine have at least their level and are even stronger !!!

17th to 22 -à 2nd division next year
The bottom six from this division will be relegated into next season's Division 2 tournament.

Due to our policy of including updates of engines during these tournaments,
we will be restructuring into three divisions of 16 engines next season in order to keep things moving along more quickly

Tester comments :

Ray Banks :

I expected that Spike 1.2 Turin would take this one out, but nobody can argue with Glaurung 1.2.1’s convincing performance!

Jonny 2.83 and The Baron 1.7.0 also performed above expectations in this tournament.

I was personally disappointed that Pseudo 0.7c failed to make the cut.

It’s highly probable that Aristarch 4.50, Thinker 4.7a and Quark 2.35 will not be included in the 3rd Championships due to all being pre-2005 engines. If this occurs, a couple of the demoted engines might yet get a lifeline.

Daniel Charles :

Congratulation to Tord & Glaurung . This is he second tournament Glaurung won this week after Open war from Olivier Deville. Spike 1.2 was the clear favorite for the gold. It was A really strong performance from Glaurung.

Naum 2 and Spike 1.2 completed the top 3 podiums. Jonny, Scorpio and Wildcat did a Strong tournament too.

Super Final for Germany free UCI Blitz Tournament
Winner
Toga 1.2.1

Tester comments :  First round (1/8): The only surprise was Abrok 5.0 victory over Aristarch 4.50 3-2.

1/4 finals: Spike, Patzer, List & Toga qualified for the demi finals

1/2 finals :

Spike 1.2 had no problem to beat Patzer 3.80  with 9-1 !!!!

Toga qualified easily versus the free list 5.12  7-3

Final: Toga 1.2.1 won clearly versus Spike 1.2  with  12-8. Spike 1.2 is very closed to Toga strength it managed to draw 10 games/ 20 !!! however Toga won 7 games versus 3 for Spike .

Winner : Toga 1.2.1 , It was playing with history threshold set at 75 ( the default value is 70) like Gajendra did for the top 3 UCI engine tournament

Tester comments :

Graham Banks :

This was a competitive tournament with no weaklings in the field!

I was impressed with the performances of the two Chessmaster settings – the two strongest we’ve tested to date.

Daniel Charles : (about free UCI engines)

Toga performed very well versus strong commercial chess engine . Toga was even very closed to win this tournament 22.5/36 (just 0.5pts behind Rybka 2.1c !!!! )

Naum 2.0 was doing good too. Naum was ahead of strong commercial engine like Junior 10, Hiarcs X50, F8 . Naum 2.0 improved a lot (probably 60-100pts over Naum 1.91 ) , now it has reach the level of some strong commercial engine.

Tester comments :  This is the first time I try the perfect12.ctg from Sedat Candaz (usually I like to use perfect 9 from him)...What I could say is the book seems good for both color (a lot of draws :D between top engine )

The test is not surprising Rybka, Glaurung, GB Fruit & Toga are among the top uci engines

2 engines over 2800 elo (Rybka & Toga ), 2 uci engine around 2700 (GB Fruit & Glaurung)

With 4 top uci engines like opponents, It is not surprising that Twisted logic and Patzer didn't do a good tournament .

However Twisted Logic won a lot of games in his league versus others strong engines (cf : Tournament 32 ko from end of september ). Twisted Logic strengh is around 2500 elo .

Patzer 3.80 : in the tournament from 2 days ago Patzer was the only uci engine over 2400 and played against opponents 100 or 200 pts below him and scored 18.5/20 . This time he was the only uci engines under 2500 elo and played versus engines 100 to 300 elo stronger than his own level . Patzer is a good uci engine , however this time the 5 others uci engine were too strong for him

Tester comments : Gajendra Singh:

Toga II 1.2.1 had history threshold set at 75 ( the default value is 70) and rest of the parameters are default . Rybka and Spike played with default settings. Actually this was not part of the plan ( the planned tournament was for default settings for all three engines ) but I entered the modified settings Toga II by mistake and noticed it only after two rounds were already completed . I decided to play the first ten positions before starting afresh with default settings . These settings are no magic setting ( is any setting ever ?) but having played over 400 games with these settings I can say that these settings are not a complete disaster either. In fact they show a small but consistent advantage over default settings . Coming soon on your favourite website Noomen match between Rybka 1.0 beta 32 bit , Spike 1.2 Turin and Toga II 1.2.1 ( default settings ) :D .

Tester comments : Ray Banks :

The Chess960 computer world championships in Mainz got me interested in chess960 and then I was hooked ! So I decided to start this ratings list. A pity all engines do not support the Shredder GUI, as I’d like to include for example Naum 2.0. Perhaps this list may serve as an incentive for authors to make their engines run under both Arena and Shredder GUIs.

Daniel Charles :

Deep Shredder 10 is simply the chess 960 champion (Mainz, August 2006)

Spike 1.1 was the former chess 960 champion & Spike 1.2 is doing great like UCI chess engine and FRC chess engine .It looks like it still have a little margin vs Free FRC engine ...

Glaurung 1.2.1 could be used like  a very good FRC engine too .

Tester comments :  Patzer 3.80 was the only uci engine over 2400 elo in this tournament and was too strong for others 5 chess engines. 18.5/20 !!!! very strong performance

BBChess 0.99 came second with 11/20 . It score 0% against Patzer but scored closed to 70% versus the 4 others chess engine

Gibbon was a very good opponent versus Patzer .Unfortunately it misses the second place with 6 draws and scored badly versus BBChess

Smash, Bibichess and Lime are  very similar in strengh 2000-2100 elo probably for both engines it was a big fight between them .

Tester comments : Pharaon 3.5.1    score almost 75% in this tournament very impressive ... It had some hard time versus Naum 2.0 . However it did very well versus others chess engine 13/16 !!! I will promote it to the golden league after all his 5 last good tournaments

Naum 2.0  His 2 losses versus Colossus cost it the first place . A very strong chess engine very closed to Fruit 2.1

Colossus 2006f scored very well versus Naum 2 but shared 50% with Alfil 6.9.1

Arasan 9.4   this time opponents were too strong for Arasan 9.4 ...

Twisted logic still have to improve a little bit to be with top uci engine like Naum or Pharaon . I m sure that the author goal for his engine is to reach a very good level like Naum or pharaon.

Alfil 6.9.1  this tournament was a little bit difficult for Alfil 6.9.1 because it played against engine stronger than his level . However, It was not so bad . It managed even to share points with Colossus

Tester comments : Gajendra Singh:

A very tight tournament except for run away win by Pharaon. I very much suspect that Pharaon will be in the Golden League in the next cycle . Interestingly Pharaon did play a single draw . Good second place for Zappa 1.1 including a 2-0 result against the winner . Ktulu 4.2 had two time losses . Unfortunately I was working on another computer at the time but since plenty of time was available it seems that it was a case of engine crash both the times . I have never had this problem with Ktulu 4.2 before and it seems strange that it should do it twice in 18 games . The game against Colossus was probably lost in any case but against Yace Ktulu had at least a draw ,and probably a win , in hand . While I have left the tournament table untouched , I let Yace and Ktulu replay the game . The replay was won by Ktulu . So I guess it is fair to take one point from Yace and add it to Ktulu .

Tester comments : Naum 2.0 was the strongest engine and the only one from the golden league before the tournament then Naum won logically with 16.5 pts/20

Twisted logic was first just 1 round before the end, but lost against Naum 2. Second it is not a bad place, especially behind a strong engine like Naum

Colossus 2006f scored very well and lost only 2 times. Colossus improved a lot between each released

Arasan 9.4   didn't do a good tournament due to his new standard (dimension) . However with 13.5/20 is not so bad :D

Patzer 3.80 did a medium tournament , It managed to score 75% versus Naum 2.0 or to take 100% vs  "weaker" engine !!! but lost very badly versus Twisted, Colossus and Arasan .

Alfil 6.9.1 / Lime 6.2 /  are chess engine between 2000-->2200 elo... They were even good versus Arasan and scored 100% vs Alex and Roce

BBChess 0.99 should have been the same level like Lime and Alfil if BBChess didn't lose 2 pts vs Firefly,Alex and Roce

for Firefly/Alex/Roce opponents like Naum 2, twisted Logic, Arasan, Colossus were a little bit too strong. They should score better in their category.I 'm sure that one day they will reach a very good level

Tester comments : I tested Fritz 9 vs the top 5 free UCI engine .In November Fritz 10 will be out, we could expect that Fritz 10 will be a lot stronger

Fritz 9 has some difficulties with Rybka, even the free version 1.0 beta . We know that Rybka 1.0 is the strongest free uci engine ...

It looks like that Toga has Fritz 9 number . Toga score 57.50% vs Fritz , a very strong performance from Toga .

Spike 1.2 fought fritz 9 like an equal engine but at the final result show 2 pts lead for Fritz .(Good for F9 here)

Gambit Fruit was in very good shape and take the lead almost since the 3rd games ... Very strong performance from Gambit Fruit here . I was impress , like last time when it was very closed to rybka after 10 games Ko

Fruit had a big hard time with Fritz 9. Fritz 9 scored 80%  !!!!!

Fritz 9 is a very strong chess engine like the top 5 free uci engine. It didn t score well vs Rybka, toga and GB Fruit . However, it did a good job vs Spike and Fruit.

Chess engine fans  bought fritz 9 not only for his engine but for his GUI and opening book too  :D

18/20 for Arasan It was like a funny and easy tournament for Jon Dart chess engine

Twisted Logic finished second like for the KO tournament :D

From Hamsters to Chispa engine looks like they have almost the same level

Muse and Patzer didn t score well . Patzer even lost 50% of his games on time !!!

Gajendra Singh :

Hi , Here is a double round robin of 10 engines of Golden League. Then Pharaon 3.51 played a 2 round gauntlet against these 10 engines. So effectively it was an eleven top free UCI engines double round robin. The book used was 5moves.ctg . I planned for a Nunn 2 tournament but for double round robin only one position would have been used. 2.4 G Hz P4 and 64 Mb hash for each engine. Time control was 40/10 repeating. Dominating performance by the two favorites and a not so good tournament for Spike 1.2.

1st round :

There are a lot of uci engine that have a very good and equal level. Some good match & a lot of tie break

  • Bibichess 0.5 won vs BBChess 0.99
  • Queen needed tie break to beat Ayito
  • WJChess won 3-2 vs freechess 2.15c (new one is 2.16)
  • Muse 3-2 vs Alichess
  • feuerstein needed tie break too vs Lime 62

2nd Round :

  • Queen again won a tie break vs Hamsters
  • Leila 3-2 chispa

No problem for Twisted Logic 4-0 vs Bibichess 0.5!!!

1/4 finals

Twisted logic, Arasan, Patzer and Aice didn't have too much trouble to win and to be in the top 4

1/2 finals

Twisted Logic beat patzer and will make his first final . Arasan 9.3 did the same vs Aice

40/4' KO Final

Arasan 9.3 vs Twisted Logic:

Twisted Logic was very closed to win with 8/17 , just 3 games before the end ... But arasan did a formidable come back and score 2.5/3 the last 3 games !!!
